Special Interests & Why I Love What I Do

I have particular interest in anesthesia of the critically ill patient, sepsis, and acute kidney failure. I also like teaching and lecturing. I am happy to be part of the EIVSC emergency and critical care team because I see my co-workers as one big family. Every success story in the emergency department becomes a win for all of us and inspires us to keep doing what we do.

I also really enjoy collaborating with surgery, internal medicine, dermatology and ophthalmology on complicated cases. The combined efforts between departments result in rapid problem recognition and treatment. The most rewarding and satisfying feeling is watching the patient that came in in critical condition, walk out of the hospital wagging their tail.

I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and have been living in the United States since 2003. My wife Sarah is from Iowa. She is also a veterinarian. Being from an island I really like nature and water sports. I am also an avid soccer and martial arts (Jujitsu) practitioner. I spend most of my free time traveling, catching up on the latest published journal, or spending time with friends and family. At least once a year I visit my homeland where I help the veterinary community in becoming more proficient in the management of critical cases.
